拙作《周易類釋》稿蒙於百忙中審閱指正，謹申謝意。
前讀大作《中國古代社會的研究》關於《周易》一篇，用新的觀點方法進行分析，開辟了研究的新途徑，頗著成績，非常欽佩。我的研究《周易》，就是得您的啟發而進行的。
來函提出關於《周易》的著作年代問題，並惠贈大著《青銅時代》。您主張《周易》編著於戰國或春秋戰國之間。對我的編著於西周末年的說法提出懷疑。這是值得研究的問題，因為著作年代不明，則據以研究古代社會便不明確。前此您根據《周易》分析古代社會，認為那時還是以牧畜為生產基調。如果著於戰國或春秋戰國之間，那不跟牧畜時代相差太遠了嗎從周初的農業豐收到春秋的“初稅畝”，農業生產已幾經變化，戰國時的書，不可能不反映。那末，著於戰國之說，不啻把前一說否定了。這是不合社會發展規律的。
我的編著於西周末年說，有不少論證，姑且不談，先談您所懷疑的和您所用來作為著於戰國的論證。
